A Music Drama Through Art Song

Act I

In Wonderland (Intro)                                                                                                          Alondra Vega-Zaldivar

Monologue                                                                                                                                                            Hugh Morris

Capturing the prelude to Alice's adventure down the rabbit hole.

Gray Room                                                                                                                                                                  Matthew Tozer

A short work based on a poem by Wallace Stevens. Gray Room is the first in which will be a collection of short songs based on poetry from the public domain.

Small Door to Wonderland                                                                                                               Alondra Vega-Zaldivar

After drinking a potion that made her shrink, Alice was able to open the door into and enchanted land full of Wonder...

Rapture                                                                                                                                                                      Brianna Drevlow

A poem by Stefan George (1868-1933)

I feel the air from another planet...

In The Forest                                                                                                                                                  Alondra Vega-Zaldivar

Looking Into Trees (Concerto Grosso III)                                                                                                                 Edgar Suski

Alice, Reality or Abstraction                                                                                                                                   Jordi Rossinyol

The musical fragment of a minute Opera inspired in the text of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

The Pious Cat                                                                                                                                                                   Julie Mandel

Based on a short story by the Polish writer I.L.Peretz, has been interpreted as a condemnation of intolerance and persecution committed in the name of religion.

Tea Party                                                                                                                                                                               Ben Pascal

A scene in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, finds Alice joining three characters drinking tea (and some other liquor). In my piece, I tried to give a character to each instrument to create dialogues between the tea drinkers and Alice.

Act II

Looking Into Trees (Concerto Grosso II)                                                                                                                  Edgar Suski

Cushiquillca - Cuando lo divisa el lobo                                                                                                              Patrick Arteaga

The text for this piece is taken from the poem Coplas de Contento by Luis Cordero Crespo. It is a Spanish translation by the author from its original Quichua version written in March 1884.

Looking Into Trees (Concerto Grosso VI)                                                                                                                 Edgar Suski

Off With Their Heads                                                                                                                                               Brooke deRosa

From the opera 'Alice in Wonderland,' this aria is sung by the Queen of Hearts. The bipolar nature of her character is reflected by extreme dynamics and sudden mood swings.

Speaking Is                                                                                                                                                               Matthew Becker

In this piece, I use a nonsensical text about dreams, or a dream. For the Cara Benson poem that I set to music, the content itself may seem silly, though there is an air of seriousness I try to capture in my music.

Songs and Dances - The Lobster Quadrille                                                                                                            Jordan Kuspa

This is a set of three songs I wrote for my good friend Katina Mitchell. The central conceit of the set is that each pieces includes an extended of dance sequence, often seeming to appear out of nowhere.

The Jabberwocky                                                                                                                                                         Marga Richter

A setting of the Lewis Carroll's poem found in his novel Alice, Through The Looking Glass.

5 Views Re/Dux – The Coated Macadam                                                                                                                     Will Rowe

Is a set of short poems by Catherine Fletcher. Published in Poetry of Wales, the poetry riffs on various lines from Peter Finch’s Five Views of Wales, in which Catherine sets the text taken from Finch’s work as the titles of each poem in 5 Views Re/ Dux, and uses them as the springboard for her ideas in the body of each poem.

What Alice Found There – Wonderland                                                                                                           Siobhra Quinlan

Is an escapist song-cycle inspired by the Lewis Carroll classic, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
